Delaying marriage on account of studying

Q: Is it advisable for one who has the need to get married to delay on account of studying further?

A: It is the Mubaarak teaching of Shariah that when a boy or girl reaches the age of marriage and they perceive the need to get married, then they should do so. The Hadith explains that if they delay in performing the nikaah, then widespread corruption will occur. Hence, when one has the need to get married, one should immediately get married. Studying is not a valid Shar’ee excuse for one to delay the marriage.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: Is lack of earning a jaaiz reason for not getting married when parents can afford to provide the married couple with support?

A: When the parents are seeing to all other needs and expenses (including university fees, holiday trips, etc.), then they should get them married, rather than allowing them to continue committing sin. It is the responsibility of the parents to guide their children towards the right and save them from the wrong. Allah Ta'ala says: "O you who believe! save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones" (Surah Tahreem, Aayah 6).

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
