Following a mazhab

Q:

1. Is it obligatory to follow a mazhab?

2. What is the concept of mazhab?

3. Which mazhab is best to follow?

A:

1. It is compulsory to protect oneself from the snares of the nafs and shaytaan and free thinking and speculating. This is only possible in current times if a person commits himself to a mazhab.

2. The definition of a mazhab is that you follow an imaam with the faith and confidence that he is well versed and he has sound proof without asking him for his proof.

3. That is subject to the place that you are in. For example, if you are living in South Africa then generally it is very easy to access a good hanafi aalim. Hence, this is subject to the location that you are in.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
