Q: When I was a teenager I used a picture and name of some other girl in my school and pretended to be her. I spoke to one boy in my school and we spoke inappropriately. I felt guilty and deleted it. This was years before I started praying and fasting but I still feel so guilty for the girl who’s picture and name I used.
I paid sadaqah in her name and I asked Allah Ta'ala for forgiveness years ago. I still feel upset and disgusted at myself. I dont believe I can contact the girl, and even if I could, I dont believe I would be able to tell her.
Is there anything else that I have to do to absolve myself?
A: You may ask her for a general forgiveness. You do not have to say the wrong you had done.
Similarly, you should not reveal your identity to the boy, but in some way clear the name of the girl by informing the boy that he did not speak to the girl you pretended to be.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: I don’t currently have a way to contact either of these people. I cant remember the girl’s name and I'm not 100% sure if I can find her online. I know the boy’s name but I can't find his social media. I don't want to ask either of their mutual friends/acquaintances about them just in case they become suspicious and ask why I'm looking for those people.
1. Is what I have done so far to absolve myself sufficient?
2. Is it obligatory or just recommended for me to do the advice you gave me?
A: The shar'ee procedure is that when you cause hurt, pain or disgrace to someone, then you should ask him/her for forgiveness. However, if you cannot manage to find them, then seek forgiveness from Allah Ta'ala for what you have done and make dua for them.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
