Reciting qiraat in the witr, sunnah and nafl salaahs audibly

Q: During my witr salaah, sunnah muakkadah salaah and nafl salaah, how loud can I read qiraat? Can it be as loud to the extent that people close to me can hear me?

A: In regard to those salaah that are performed during the day, then the sharee ruling is that they must be performed softly. Performing them audibly is makrooh. As for those salaah that are performed during the night, then the sharee ruling is that if a male wishes, he may recite them audibly, and if he wishes, he may recite them softly.
