Woman posting pictures of herself on social media platforms

Q: Is it allowed for a married Muslim woman to wear makeup and post her pictures on social media platforms like imo, WhatsApp, Facebook and telegram without the consent of her husband? If not what is the Islamic ruling for a wife who constantly do such things by violating the command of her husband despite telling her several times to refrain from posting her photo on social media?

Please I need your advice on this matter. What should I do? I have been telling my wife several times not to post her photo as it is against the sharia of Islam, however after I convinced her, she takes my advice for time being and agrees not to do it again, but after some time she continued to do it again and again.

A: Pictures of humans and all animate objects are forbidden in shariah. Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has sounded severe warnings regarding pictures. Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The people to be inflicted with the worst punishment will be the picture makers." Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has cursed the one who receives interest, the one who gives interest, the tattooist, the tattooed and the picture maker. The hadeeth also explains that the angels of mercy do not enter a home in which there is a picture of an animate object. Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has also explained that a woman is something that is to be concealed. And the moment she exposes herself then Shaytaan uses her as a tool for fitnah.

This is now a double sin, since she is not supposed to expose herself and she is further defying the husband.

Make a point of reciting the Qur'aan Shareef and making zikr at home. Daily read out some portion from the Fazaa'il-e-A`maal, Fazaa'il-e-Sadaqaat and Bahishti Zewar. The recitation of the Qur'aan and noble ahaadeeth of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) will bring about immense barkat in your home. Also diligently read the manzil and engage in dua. Furthermore, show her kindness and love.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
