Husband forcing wife to cut ties with her family

Q: I used to badmouth my husband and his family infront of my siblings. He read my messages (was doing it for many years) and insulted my family infront of his family. Now he wants me to cut ties with my family. I have two kids what should I do?

Is it permissible to cut ties with family if your husband enforces you to?

A: It is not permissible for you to cut off ties with your family. Cutting off ties with one's family is a major sin. Hence, you should not obey your husband in things that are impermissible.
