Performing sabina salaah and witr in the Harams

Q: Please can you kindly advise on the following from a Hanafi point of view:

1. Reading Sabina Taraweeh in the Kingdom. Is it permissible to do so?

2. Are we allowed to read Witr in Jamaat in the Kingdom as their method is different?

A:

1. According to the hanafi mazhab, performing nafl salaah in jamaat is only permissible in the case where the number of people including the imaam is four or less. If there are five people or more, it will not be permissible. Hence, according to the hanafi mazhab, it is not permissible for one to join the sabina salaah in the haram.

However, according to other mazhabs, performing nafl salaah in jamaat is permissible regardless of the number of people that join the jamaat.

2. According to the hanafi mazhab, witr salaah should be performed with three rakaats and salaam in the end. Performing witr salaah with two rakaats and thereafter making salaam, and then performing a separate rakaat (i.e. the third rakaat) and making salaam is not correct according to the hanafi mazhab.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
