Self-esteem and self-confidence in Islam

Q:

1. In Islam, what is the perspective on self-esteem and how can it be increased?

2. What is the Islamic perspective on self-confidence and how can it be increased?

A:

1. If by self esteem you are referring to enhancing your status or gaining the respect of people, then this is not something that Islam encourages. It does not mean that you will do something to humiliate yourself amongst people.

2. Trust and reliance must be in Allah Ta`ala. However, Allah Ta`ala loves people with firm determination and resolve. This means that after trusting in Allah Ta`ala and having full confidence in Him then you may embark on your right recommendable ambitions.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
