Q: I will be travelling from Jhb to Dubai and from Dubai to Madinah. When I depart I will be in the state of haidh but it will stop over the course of the journey.
1. If I realise that I am no longer in the state of haidh whilst on the plane and ghusl is not possible and salaah time will set in and pass while on the plane, what are my options?
2. If haidh ends and I cannot make ghusl, would I be considered to have been paak and if 78km away from Madina will qasr then apply to me? Or will I only be considered paak once ghusl is made upon landing and so full salaah applies?
A:
1. If you become paak during the journey, then you will need to have ghusal and begin to perform your salaah on the plane. You should wash your entire body (including your hair) as well as gargle your mouth and rinse your nose in the plane toilet. If you cannot manage to have ghusal and the time passes, then you should perform the salaah as qadha later on and make taubah for missing your salaah.
2. If there is 78km or more to your destination from the time you become paak, then you will be regarded as a musaafir on the plane as well as at your destination and you will have to perform qasr salaah (i.e. if you remain for less than 15 days at your destination). This is regardless of whether you have ghusal on the plane or not.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
