Q: I am a 17 year old high school student, and really embarassed to ask such a question, so I seek Allah's forgiveness.
Since few months I have developed feelings for a celebrity girl who is in my age group. Though the intentions are not ill but I really want to marry her and oftenly ask Allah to make me marry her.
Is this type of dua ok and what should I do about it? Can you please guide me as per Islam.
A: In deen, we are encouraged to marry people who are deeni conscious and lead a pure life according to the mubaarak sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). When choosing a life partner, there are many aspects for one to consider apart from beauty.
One should remember that the girl one marries will have to fit in the family circle, fulfil the role of a wife as well as become the mother of one's children. Hence, if she does not have the correct Islamic upbringing and is not moulded in her deen in accordance to the beautiful qualities which Islam encourages in a woman (such as having modesty and shame, observing purdah from the opposite gender, being concerned about upholding the rights of Allah Ta'ala and the creation, and being committed to deen in all aspect of her life), then one will not find happiness, satisfaction and fulfilment in the nikaah.
Similarly, if one does not marry a woman who is committed to deen and committed to the marriage, then one may face many problems and hardships in the nikaah. This may also lead to the breakdown of the nikaah.
Hence, we advise you to discuss the matter with your parents before taking a decision.
