Zakaat on inheritance that is not yet distributed

Q: With regards to the estate of the deceased, if money or gold has not yet been distributed between the heirs and a year passes, is zakah due on that wealth?  

A: If the inheritance is not yet distributed and the heirs have not yet received their shares of the inheritance, then zakaat will not be compulsory on their shares of the inheritance (money or jewellery, etc). 

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
