Tying ihraam after visiting Taaif when going for umrah

Q: Years ago I made umrah and then I made an overnight visit to Taif. Was I suppose to perform another umrah on my return to Makkah?

A: Yes, when you passed the meeqaat with the intention of coming to Makkah, it was compulsory upon you to tie the ihraam for umrah. If you did not tie the ihraam for umrah and crossed the meeqaat, then you were sinful and one damm is compulsory upon you.

You should get someone to slaughter a damm (a sheep or goat) in the precincts of the haram on your behalf for the violation of crossing the meeqaat without ihraam. After the damm is slaughtered, the meat should be distributed among the poor.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
