Video calling

Q: I travel quite often out of town for work purposes. Can I call my wife and children via a video call to see how they are doing? The call will not be recorded

A: Video calling is not permissible as it entails involvement in the grave sin of photography.

The hadith has sounded severe warnings for all those who get involved in the grave sin of photography and picture making.

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "The people to be afflicted with the worst form of punishment in the hereafter will be the picture makers."

Hence, it is not permissible for you to video call your family irrespective of whether you record the video call or not. In both cases, it is still impermissible.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
