Q: Is it permissible for the Imaam of the Masjid or any scholar to teach hifdh/madressa in the Masjid & charge fees?
If not, should this be moved outside the Masjid boundary or what would be the best possible solution?
A: The Fuqaha have ruled that it is makrooh for one to teach the Quraan Majeed or teach deen in the musjid and take a remuneration for teaching.
The reason for the prohibition is that the musjid should not be made a place of business, as the Hadith has prohibited doing business in the musjid. Therefore, teaching should take place out of the musjid.
Nevertheless, if there is no other place to teach besides the musjid, then in these dire circumstances, some of the Fuqaha have allowed teaching in the musjid, even though one teaches for a remuneration.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
