Q: Is it fine for one to perform tawaaf on the upper level, as the crowd is less compared to the mataaf, or is it more virtuous and rewarding for one to perform tawaaf on the mataaf?
A: Performing tawaaf on the mataaf and on the upper level are both permissible and rewarding. However, the Fuqahaa have mentioned that performing tawaaf close to the Ka’bah Shareef is more virtuous.
Therefore, since the person performing tawaaf on the mataaf is closer to the Ka’bah Shareef compared to the person performing tawaaf on the upper levels, performing tawaaf on the mataaf is more virtuous.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
أما مكان الطواف فمكانه حول البيت لقوله تعالى: وليطوفوا بالبيت العتيق والطواف بالبيت هو الطواف حوله فيجوز الطواف في المسجد الحرام قريبا من البيت أو بعيدا عنه بعد أن يكون في المسجد حتى لو طاف من وراء زمزم قريبا من حائط المسجد أجزأه لوجود الطواف بالبيت لحصوله حول البيت (بدائع الصنائع 2/131)
والرمل بالقرب من البيت أفضل فإن لم يقدر فهو بالبعد من البيت أفضل من الطواف بلا رمل مع القرب منه (فتح القدير ٢/٤٥٥)
