Q: Please advise how to soften my heart. I recently cannot cry. No matter how afraid I am of my sins and meeting Allah Ta'ala, I cannot cry when making dua. If it's my medication, do I stop it? What if I battle without my medication? At the same time, I'm worried about becoming hard hearted.
I also cannot concentrate at all in my salaah. How do I become a better Muslim?
A: Crying at the time of dua is commendable. However, not crying does not mean that your duas are not answered or that you are sinful. Don't let this matter disturb you. The hadeeth has explained that if you are unable to cry then pretend to cry. Hence, don't at all be perturbed by this. Allah Ta`ala looks at the condition of the heart. Hence, the greater focus should be on the condition of the heart when making dua.
Don't stress. Just think that this may be your last namaaz and in a few minutes you will be in the qabrastan. Don't fidget in your namaaz. Let your eyes be focused at the right spot and just focus on the words that are being recited. May Allah Ta`ala accept your namaaz and make it easy for you.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
