Keeping the head straight during qiyaam

Q:

1. Would it be disliked if someone bowed their head till their chin touched or almost touched their upper chest, in the standing or sitting positions of the prayer (while keeping their eyes at the various sunnah positions during the prayer)? If so, for what reason would it be disliked, and when would it not be disliked?

2. If they did this out of feeling comfortable, would it be disliked?

A:

1. In the posture of qiyaam the head should be kept straight. Bending the head is makrooh and against the sunnah.

2. Yes.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: When I'm looking at the place of prostration during standing, and on my thighs when sitting, I believe my head would (naturally) be bent. So is there a certain amount of bending of the head/neck that would need to be done, before it’s deemed disliked? For example, would it be if your chin touched your chest?

A: In the standing posture, the Fuqahaa mention that the head should not be bent forward but rather it should be kept straight. It is possible for one to keep his head straight in the standing posture while keeping his sight on the place of sajdah.

Similarly, in the sitting posture, one should keep his sight on the area between the lower chest and the lap. This is possible if one sits in a position where one's back is kept straight (not bending the back).

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
