Q: If someone does kufr or shirk (but later makes tawbah and comes back), do they have to re-do all of the following?
- previous valid zakat
- previous valid fitrana+qurbani
- previous valid prayers + fasts (what if they were in the middle of making up many years worth of qadas?) or can they ignore it and focus on the present and future acts they must do?
A: If they renew their imaan and sincerely repent from their wrong, Allah Ta‘ala will forgive them.
They will not have to repeat all their past salaah, zakaah, qurbaani and other ibaadah which they carried out in the state of imaan. However, they will have to renew their nikaah and if they performed hajj, then they will have to repeat their hajj if they have the means to go for hajj.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
