Q: Can one change their madhab from Hanafi to Shafi or is that not allowed?
A: If there is a valid excuse for one changing his mazhab (e.g. there are no Hanefees living in the place where one is living and one does not know his mazhab), then it is permissible.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
