Exposing one's sins to get a ruling from the Ulama

Q: Is telling a sin to get a ruling on it sinful? Will it reverse one’s tawbah?  What if the sin is more severe like Zina or kufr?

A: It is not permissible for one to expose his sins before people. Exposing one's sins before people is a sin. However, if one refers to an Aalim to find out the sharee ruling regarding any sin which one had committed, then in this case, since one wishes to find out the sharee ruling of one's action, one will not be sinful for mentioning one's sin to the Aalim.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
