Q: Is it permissible for a husband to beat his wife? Men justify the beating by saying there is a hadith to say that hitting is permissible. If this hitting is not permissible, what will be the consequences in the akhirah?
A: Islam advocates dealing with the creation with compassion and mercy. Hence, with one's wife, Islam teaches that one should adopt a polite and gentle approach.
It is not permissible for the husband to ill-treat his wife or beat her for mistakes she makes. If the wife makes a mistake, then with compassion and mercy she should be corrected and advised.
Imagine if the roles were reversed, and the wife who is stronger than the husband in bodily strength, begins to beat the husband for any mistakes he makes.
The Hadith mentions that the best of you are those who treat their wives the best (Sunan Tirmizi #3895).
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
