Q: Can I give zakaat to my mother-in-law who is a widow and her two sons are not able to fulfil her needs?
Q: My husband is in heavy debts. I have a good amount of gold given to me in my marriage as a gift by my parents, in-laws and relatives. The zakat on gold amounts to thousands of rupees. I am a housewife so whatever my husband gives me for my personal expenses is the only income I have. First year of my marriage I sold a few items of my gold and paid off the zakat to nearest relatives who were in need. Now I heard about this following hadith: Al-Bukhaari (1462) and Muslim (1000) from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him), that when the Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) commanded the women to give in charity, Zaynab the wife of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood came to him and said: “O Prophet of Allaah, today you told us to give in charity. I have some jewellery and I want to give it in charity, but Ibn Mas’ood claims that he and his child are more deserving of my charity.” The Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Ibn Mas’ood has spoken the truth. Your husband and child are more deserving of your charity.” So I ask you if you could clear my doubts regarding it accordingly. Can I give the amount my husband gave to me for my peesonal expenses as zakat back to my husband so he could pay off his debts?

Q: My wife transferred her zakaat to my bank account, I then forwarded the amount to an organisation to distribute her zakaat. Therefore, on paper it appears as if I have made a donation to this organisation, even though in reality it is my wifes contribution. Is it permissible for me to claim a personal rebate from SARS for myself for this donation? If I do claim a rebate, will the money belong to myself or my wife?
Q:
1. I want to ask about the obligatory charity (zakat). There are some things which I want to know about rules of zakat. First of all I want to know rules about paying zakat on inherited wealth. My father died and the money in his account was given to me after 7 months. My father died in 8th month of Islamic calender. He used to give zakat in Ramadan. Maybe the time was complete for giving zakat ( i do not know for sure) but he died before that. So the question is that was I supposed to pay on his behalf or not. If not then when should i pay zakat. Should I calculate day from that one on which he died or the one which i received money from bank 7 months later.
2. Also the money in bank is of two kinds. One is that which me and my father saved. The other is not ours. It is security deposit of the shop keeper and the person who lives at rent in our house. Some of the shop keepers have been here for 20 or 25 years. So am I supposed to pay zakat including the deposit or just the one we saved.
Q: An orthodontist does braces for the teeth. Some patients are brought to him by people saying that these are people worthy of Zakaat, do their treatment and you can count it as you giving Zakaat money to the value of the treatment. However, there doesn't seem to be tamleek here. How can he do the treatment for these poor patients and count it as Zakaat?
Q: I have a relative who is liable for zakaat. I informed my aunt that I am collecting zakaat for someone without giving the name. My aunt gave me R500 Zakaat. I then went to the shop for buying something but ran short of money. I used the R500 with the view of replacing with my own money later. I then took my own R500 and gave it to my relative. Is my aunt's zakaat discharged?
