Respecting one's father while knowing that he commits adultery
Q:
1. If a daughter knows that her father commits adultery, should she still respect her father?
2. What are the rulings on the wife of such a man?
A:
1. The daughter should be kind and compassionate towards her father and fulfil his rights. His wrongs should not cause her to neglect the rights that she owes him. However, if he is understanding and she is able to explain to him his wrongs, then in a respectful manner she should explain to him.
2. The wife should advise her husband with respect that what he is doing is wrong. However, if despite advising him, he wishes to continue on his wrong, then she should ask him to divorce her or she may advise him to take the woman he is involved with as a second wife. In this way, she will assist him to refrain from the haraam that he is involved in.
