Performing qasr salaah while travelling

Q: What are the rulings of performing salaah in travel?

A: When a person travels for the safr distance (i.e. 78 km or more), then he will perform two rakaats in place of the four rakaat fard salaah.

This ruling applies to the situation where one is performing the fard salaah alone or he is performing the fard salaah behind a musaafir.

Nevertheless, if one performs the fard salaah behind a muqeem (i.e. a person who is not a musaafir), then he will perform all four rakaats.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
