Wearing a niqaab in the state of ihraam

Q: Myself and my family will be going for umrah in March In Sha Allah.

I am in niqaab and I wanted to find out the ruling if I can keep my niqaab on and give out a damm as I make pardah from my brother in law's and they are going to be with so I can't take it off completely.

A: It is compulsory upon a female to conceal herself from ghair mahram (strange men) at all times. Hence, shariah commands her to cover her face with a purdah so that she is not seen by strange men.

However, in the state of ihraam, it is not permissible for a woman to place anything directly upon her face. Therefore, in the state of ihraam, she should wear the cap-purdah so that the cloth does not touch her face and she is not seen by strange men.

It is not permissible for a woman in the state of ihraam to wear a normal purdah (niqaab). If she wears a normal purdah, she will have to give sadaqah or damm, depending on how long she wore the purdah.
