Q: If someone betted online and through this, he earned more money then what he put in. Now that he knows that betting is haraam, can he take back his capital amount and give the rest in sadaqah or does he have to give the entire amount in sadaqah?
A: It is permissible for him to take back his capital amount. As for the extra amount which he acquired. then it is compulsory upon him to give it in charity without the intention of receiving any reward.
He should make sincere taubah for getting involved in the grave sin of gambling and make a firm resolve that he will not repeat this sin in the future.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
