Charging petrol money to deliver the loan amount

Q: My friend asked me for a loan of R100 000. He asked me to bring the money to him. I live in Pmb and he lives in Durban. Is it permissible for me to ask him to pay my petrol money for me to bring the R100 000 to him (i.e. R200)?

A: This is not permissible. By you asking him to pay for your petrol money, you are taking an extra benefit through the loan which you are giving him. Hence, this enters under the definition of interest. Therefore, you should refrain from this. If you give him an interest-free loan and you do not ask him to pay for your petrol, then you will be rewarded by Allah Ta'ala for giving him an interest-free loan.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
