Q: Is it permissible for one sitting in sunnah i’tikaaf to conduct business transactions in the musjid?
A: It is makrooh tahreemi (impermissible) for one in i’tikaaf to bring the merchandise into the musjid and conduct transactions. If the merchandise is not brought into the musjid, then though it is permissible to carry out a business transaction in the musjid, it is makrooh tanzeehi (undesirable) for him to do so, unless he has a need to purchase his basic food.
( وخص ) المعتكف ( بكل وشرب وعقد احتاج إليه ) أو عياله فلو لتجارة كره ( كبيع ونكاح ورجعة )... ( وكره ) أي تحريما لأنها محل إطلاقهم بحر ( إحضار مبيع فيه ) (الدر المختار مع رد المحتار 2/448-449)
