Mahr

Q: Hanafis can only give wealth as mahr whereas Shaafi'ees can recite a surah, etc. Does this only work if both boy and girl are Shaafi'ee or if one is Shaafi'ee and the other Hanafi?

Q: A couple bought a house in both their names, shared the deposit and took finance jointly. Subsequently the husband gave her one or two talaaqs and she completed her iddat. Thereafter the couple planned to re-marry. Her condition for the second re-marriage was that the mahr must be the house that was jointly purchased, so that she has full power to the house.

The question that is being asked is that is it possible to give a house on bond as mahr, considering that the payments are in arrears. The bank wants to auction the house. So is it permissible to give this house as mahr, the house is not paid for yet, so ownership still remains with the bank until fully paid for.

Q: Is it possible to give a house bonded by the bank and a used vehicle with no idea on what the monetary value is as mahr? E.g. Maher is my house that I am living in (with a bond of 500 000.00) and my car but no mention of the value. 

Q: I'm getting married in June Insha-Allah. When my parents were discussing the mahr, I kept a request in front of my in laws and my husband that instead of money I wanted to be gifted with a Surah from the Quran which will hold a value of living a good life after marriage and adding barakah to our life. So me and my husband will be memorizing it. Is it a valid point?

Q: Is it permissible in islam for the Moulana to create a dowry agreement and to tell the husband to sign such an agreement that in the event of him divorcing his wife then he has to hand over his assets to his wife or his rights to his assets will be forfeited and transferred to the wife. Also to place the husband on terms to sign such dowry agreement. I know in Islam we have mahr paid immediately.

Q: Before I married, no one told me about how mahr works. They told me that I must take whatever he gives or I cannot marry him. Is it right or what?

Q: What is the minimum mahar in pounds?

Q: I gave my wife R5000 cash mehar money. When I got married I did not have any debt. Now I have a R45 000 debt to pay. My wife keeps telling me to use the mehar money to pay part of the debt. Is this permissible in Islam?
