Women Driving

Q: Is it permissible for a woman to drive a car? If yes please provide proof!!! I must make mention that on all your previous answers to me no proof was supplied from Qur’an or Hadith or from the Kitaabs of our Pious Ulema of the past or from the Kitaabs of the Imaams and this I find highly disturbing!!!

Taking a lift with Ladies

Q: Is it permissible for a na mahram man to take a lift with two ladies (He will be alone with them in the car)? The reason he is taking a lift is because his home is approximately 2 to 3 kilometres from the workplace and he has no other means of transport besides walking. Will it be permissible for them to give him a lift in this situation? Furthermore if the husband follows his wife in another car, will it be permissible for the na mahram male to take a lift with her?

Spirit of the Sunnah

Q: Mufti Saheb, I teach in a maktab with my husband for the last 23 years. I am asked to attened regular meatings with the other two Aapas sitting behind the purdah. In the class are all the male Ulema also. They cannot see us only hear what we have to say. Is it permissible for me to attened? I am happy for my husband to inform me as to what is said and what has to be done. One of the Aalim's does not have a problem with his wife attending. My husband says the jamaat members insist and force me to attend so I must attend and just sit quitly and not say a word. I should not look at the jamaat members but look at the children we teach. If we are forced to leave the jamaat members won't loose but the children will loose out. What should I do according to shariat?

Women attending Deeni programmes

Q: According to Islamic law, women should remain in their homes and only leave their homes if there is an urgent need to, yet we find that there are Ulama who are advertising this program and that program all in the name of uplifting the ummah. Obviously, these women are going to leave their homes to attend these programs and as a woman myself, I know very well as to how women beautify themselves when leaving the home. My question is "Are these Ulama not contradicting themselves so severly?" Many women look at this and think that its totally fine to go because the Moulanas are encouraging it.

Male and female cousins hugging and interacting casually

Q: Is it permissible for male and female cousins to hug each other and be casual with each other? In many families, I notice male and female cousins hugging and speaking casually. In certain families, I also see brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law interacting casually. Could you give some advice on this issue and inform us of what appears in the Qur'aan and Ahaadith in this regard?

Wearing Niqaab

Q: Can a muslim sister at the age of 45 suddenly decide she wants to wear niqab for her remaining years? During all her past years, she wore hijab exposing her face and wrists. What are the prerequisites and stipulations to be adhered to when in purdah? She comes from a very humble home with no car, hence she uses public transport. She has no other option but to do errands like shopping for food by herself. Is that permissible? She is a devout muslim but postponed purdah because of these reasons where she must walk on public roads to take and fetch her child from school. Whenever in public, she feels very vulnerable and guilty. She always considered wearing the purdah but was influenced not to.
