Contraceptives and Infertility

Q: Is one allowed to take birth control measures because one feels they are not ready for children or they want to enjoy time with their husband and relax...is that a valid excuse?

Q: Are fertility assisted procedures such as IUI and IVF permissible in Islam?

Q: I would like to know if its permissible to put in a copper loop as a contraception?

Q: Can an unmarried girl get a test tube child or is it only for a married woman?

Q: Me and my wife have been married for 7 years now Alhamdulillah, but unfortunately we have no children.

We are speaking to ivf specialists and when we asked about being able to see a female specialist during the egg collection and embryo implant procedure we were told that this is not possible and we will be seen by whoever is available on the day, male or female.

What is the ruling regarding this under Islamic law. I have been getting mixed responses from family and friends. Some people have told me because it is medical reason it is allowed while others say it is haram as the awrah (privates) is exposed to a non mahram (potentially male) and not a necessity.

Please can you elaborate on the conditions that would make ivf between husband and wife, halal or haram.

Q: Me and my husband have beta thalassemia trait and have been offered ivf. I would like to know if it is permissable to get it tested before they implant the fetus.

Q: Does Islam allow the following:

1. Artificial insemination with the husband's semen?

2. Artificial insemination with a donor's semen? Buy the semen of another man if the semen of the husband is weak or has no egg.

3. Test tube babies i.e fertilization of wife's ovum with husband's sperm in a test tube and returning the fertilised ovum into the wife's uterus?

Q: What type of fertility treatment would be permissible to conceive a child? My husband and I are desperate to conceive.

Q: My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past many years. Unfortunately my womb was damaged during a previous c-section, and I have endometriosis. Would it be permissible for us to receive fertility treatment? Our doctor has recommended having an iui (intra-uterine insemination) using my husband's sperm.
