Q: I have to go to work in Saudi Arabia. They are saying that I should dress casual, that means pants and shirt. I don't like to wear it as I prefer a thobe and red guthra. What should I do? Some of the people laugh and say - molvi got sold out for money - wearing pants and shirt - showing his privates around. Some say you are caught into the trap of the enemies of Islam and shaytan. I sometimes hear such comments and as a result I don't know what to do?
1. Is it haram to do like this - wear pants and shirt for work only and then dispose of it after work?
2. Is a tie a sign of the cross? Everyone at work wears it except me and a few others?
3. I am scared that if I die in this condition will I go to hell for earning rizq in a haram way i.e. wearing pants and shirt?
4. I am thinking how can I convince my non-Muslim boss to allow me not to wear it especially when everyone is ok wearing a business suit?
Q: This might sound like an odd question but I was looking at some shoes and read that they were made off suede. I know that wearing pigskin is not permissible so I emailed the company that was making them (Louboutins) and they replied with saying that none of their shoes were made of pigskin but I am still wondering if I am able to wear them.
Q: Is hair or beard dyeing permissible only for job purposes which is advised by an employer? It is a customer service sales job. The employer advised me to colour my hair and beard black to show that I am younger because markets like young energetic people. It is a garments label industry. Here, colouring the hair or beard black (to show that I am young) will not cheat people. It is only to show that the company has appointed smart officials. There is no cheating in the product. Product quality will remain ok as per company policy. I need a ruling in this regard.
Q: Can a woman use an epilator to remove hair from her private parts?
Q: I have brought home a mouth wash. I used it today in the morning then I read at the back that one of the ingredients to make mouth wash is alcohol. These days every medicinal syrup uses alcohol as one of its ingredients. Should I use this mouth wash or throw it away?
Q: What type of pants is best for a women to wear under their abaya? It is usually said women should not wear a pants with a zip? Imitates a man's dressing. And it should be a pants with elastic, however the formal pants with a zip etc. does not reveal ones shape of the legs, if one wears a pants with an elastic band and it's strech, it's more likely ones shape will be revealed? Due to fabric sticking to each other. Is it permissible to wear a huge abaya with a formal pants with a narrow bottom under? Is that modest?
Q: What is the ruling on cutting/trimming hair for women? Is it not permissible to cut hair at all or the hair (except for Hajj and umrah) can be cut but it should be below the level of the shoulders.
Q: Is it permissible for a woman to wear a cloak that ties above the waist, STRICTLY in front of Muslim women?
Here is an explanation: A belt that ties above the waist will make the cloak a bit tighter towards the top part of the body, it will not be loose fitting on the upper part of the body. However, the lower part and the navel to knees will be covered without showing the shape of the body. This will be strictly in front of Muslim women (e.g. a function). Basically will she be exposing her satr (her satr in front of Muslim women) in this situation?
