Choosing a daughter in law

Q: My son is 20 years old and wants to get married. We know that we should not stop him. The girl however is not of good character. On the one hand we are taught to choose a spouse of good character and on the other hand we are taught to forgive and assist with reformation of character. Which takes presidence? Do we allow and guide her or do we say no to the marriage?

Non-Muslim parents forcing one to worship the dead

Q: I am reverted to Islam and used to be a Hindu. I do not worship idols but during some days Hindu people worship the dead people of their family to show them respect and for that they burn something like coal in name of them and prostate in front of them. I am secretly following Islam and my mother told me to prostrate in front of that even though I was a Muslim, I just sat down and took my head down. I did not touch the ground with my nose and head and was taking name of Allah. I cannot say no to my parents. Have I done shirk? I even cried after this in front of Allah and I am now feeling that I do not deserve to be a servant of Allah. What can I do now?

Muslim accountant calculating insurance transactions of a company

Q: A Muslim business has already taken out insurance on their fleet of vehicles.

Is it permissible for a Muslim to do the accounting records and related calculations for this insurance which they have already been taken out? For example, he will have to calculate the total insurance premium for all the vehicles, cross-check and ensure that the insurance records are correct, etc. The Muslim will be working for the business itself and will be in no way related to the insurance company.

Khateeb making a mistake in the khutbah

Q: The Khateeb in our district Masjid in the Arabic sermon - khutbah, he reads it as "fakheemil ithm" instead of "ism". A scholar says that this is totally incorrect as Naoozoobillah you are saying that Allah Ta'ala commits great sins. The Khwateeb was asked to correct it, but doesn't do it. He continues to recite in this manner.

1. Is it true that the meaning actually changes and it can lead to kufr?

2. Should the Khateeb be allowed to continue giving the khutbah if he fails to correct this mistake?

Female mureedah giving gifts to the shaikh

Q:

1. Can a female mureeda give a little gift to her Shaykh (and his wife) to thank him for all his advice and his precious support in the spiritual journey?

2. Can I consider my Shaykh as a father? (Obviously remaining aware that my biological father is another, but unfortunately he has never collaborated with my mother in my upbringing and often he said that he doesn't consider me his daughter, especially after convertion to Islam. I'm still a teenager and my education is carried out by my mother (convert to Islam Alhamdulillah) and by my Shaykh who guide me on spiritual path and he is helping me to shape my personality and my behavior, so this Shaykh is like a father for me).

Using software programs named god

Q: I'm a software engineer and there is a website called github.com. Its a website for saving and downloading software codes. Its so popular because of the high quality that pretty much everyone in the entire industry is using it. It even acts as a software engineer's resume. Its a huge website but the problem is that it has a couple of programs that some people decided to give names like thor and god. The company nike is a similar issue. However, one can avoid nike but avoiding github.com is impossible in this industry. What is a Muslim to do in this situation?

Going to the gym

Q: I am a 14 year old boy. I want to know if it is permissible for me to go to the gym at times where there is like nobody and trying the best I can to avoid people if there was any, and most people who go are men. For example, on Wednesdays, I go to the gym directly after school at 15:00 and finish my traing before 16:30 (It's when most people start going to the gym). I know that it is impermissible to go to places where there is fitnah. But is this permissible for me?
