Calculating safr distance from the boundary of one's town

Q: When traveling, how do I calculate safr distance? I am leaving from my house in Johannesburg to another place. From my house to the destination is 80km. But from the outskirts of my city to the outskirts of the place is 65km.

Do we work with the full distance or from the outskirts to the outskirts of the city?

Making the top floor of a building a masjid and not the bottom foor

Q: Can the entire top floor of a building be musjid whilst the bottom floor is not?

The bottom floor will be the wudhu khana which is out of the masjid and some rooms which will be used for other masjid related work (store room etc.).

Using someone else's student card to get a discount

Q: I currently live in Pretoria and work in Jet Park (I travel about 128km a day to and from work). Currently I use my car everyday to work and back. I have previously looked at the Gautrain as an alternative, however it worked out a little too expensive for me.

Recently, my small brother informed me that he receives a discount on his Gautrain trips (as he is a student) but doesn't use this discount as his campus isn't so far and it's easier for him to drive. As he isn't using this discount- He had offered it to me to use his discount to travel to work.

My question - Would it be permissible to use his discount for my benefit (considering he is a student and I am not)?

Disable person making tayammum for salaah

Q: If someone is ill and has some disabilities, doing wudu and praying salah will increase the illness. He doesn't have anyone to help him. Can he do tayammum and pray sitting down?

Old lady going for umrah during iddat

Q: My grandmother has an umrah trip planned for end of March. But her husband passed away a few days ago (Feb 11). I am aware that iddat is for 4 months ten days but my grandma is 75 years old and I wanted to know if she is able to go to umrah and complete the remainder of her iddat when she gets back or is it not permissible for her to go? I was not aware if age makes a difference.

Nikaah not taking place by saying "let us get married"

Q: If a young Muslim couple who are not married joke with each other and the man says let’s get married and the lady also jokes and says yes let’s do it, will the Nikaah be made?

Using interest money acquired from one bank to offset interest charges of another bank

Q: Can interest money acquired from one bank be used to offset interest charges on my credit card from another bank, or is it only permissible to use the interest money of one bank to offset the interest charges of the same bank?

Asking a prospective groom to recite Quraan

Q: I would like to find out if it's permissible for the prospective groom, when seeing the girl, to be asked to recite a portion of the Quraan is he's a Haafidh. This is not to test his dhor but to hear his recitation of Quraan as I am a hifz student as well Alhamdulillah.

I desire a spouse who is affluent in deen and Quraan because my parents gave me this type of tarbiyah and I wish for the same for my progeny. I'm not worried about having the best of wealth and being extravagant. All I want in a marriage is a caring, deeni inclined, honest and chaste spouse who will be the best for my deen, dunya and aakhirah and I can be benefit to him and his family.

Girl dressing up a bit when a boy comes to see her for marriage

Q: When a prospective couple meet-under the supervision of the guardians to speak for the few minutes, as a muslimah in hijaab, I try to dress as simple as possible-to follow the sunnah and Sayyidinah Faatimah(radhiyallahu anha). My family has already requested me to dress up a bit (in a more smart Abaayah) when the boy comes to see me.

Would this be a sin to do such when the boy comes to see me? If I don't dress in a fancy Abaayah as requested, will I get a sin if I don't follow this request? I don't want to be disrespectful towards my elders.

Please advise the way forward
