Q: Zaid sent a parcel of GBP in cash to Bakr, with the intention of selling it to him for ZAR. Bakr inspected the notes, because some of them were old, and they both agreed on an exchange rate.

After a few days, Zaid subsequently sent his agent to collect ZAR notes from Bakr. Bakr did not give the entire amount. After a week, Bakr made an EFT of the remaining amount in ZAR.

(1) What is the status of the ZAR notes received from Bakr? If the money is haraam, what should be done with the money?

(2) What is the status of the money received via EFT from Bakr? If the money is haraam, what should be done with the money?

Jeweller selling one's jewellery without permission

Q: I went to a jeweller with some items of old gold jewellery to to get new jewellery. He gave me 2 options:

1. He melts the old jewellery and makes new ones and I pay him for his labour.

2. If there is some piece of jewellery which I like, we can swop the both.

I told him give me some time to decide. In the meantime, he sent me a picture of an item which was also gold which I liked, so I told him to please keep it for me and I will come to his office and we'll make the deal.

When I finally go there, he informs me that in order to keep that item for me, he had to swop my jewellery for it. This was done without first asking me and without my permission. So now my jewellery is gone and he tells me I must take the new item. I asked him regarding the difference in weights of the two as both were gold. His reply was "the difference was very small, don't worry about it".

My problem is that I understand that him doing that straight swop was not permissible according to shariah as gold for gold must be exact and even a "small difference" is not permissible. But now my jewellery is gone and cannot be retrieved, and I'm left with no option but to take this new item. What do I do in this situation? Will I be sinful for taking this item knowing that he got it through a riba transaction? And if I don't take it, I will lose out as he wouldn't pay me for my gold.

Also, with regard to the difference in the weights, I don't even know which was more or less as he wouldn't tell me clearly (although it seems to me that mine was the more).

Earning by viewing adverts online

Q: I am doing online work. The process of this work is that they have websites where we can work. They have the process that first we have to choose the package. I have chosen a package of 1000 rupees. It is a silver package. I have to see ads daily. One ad for one day. 1 ad will give me 60 rupees. This package is valid for 30 days. I will make 1800 rupees from there by watching ads daily on this website. After a month I can withdraw this amount in my easy paisa account. They cut out some service charges and give me 1700 or something. So I wanna know that if this money is halal for me or haram?

Selling livestock without taking possession of the livestock

Q: I've been doing livestock for the past year, I wholesale and retail livestock throughout the year and I try to do everything in the best of my ability and in the halaal way.

Yesterday I came across someone who told me the way I'm running my business is haraam.

I'm From Durban and I get livestock from Northern Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape. So when I wholesale throughout the year as customers want animals, I order from the different farmers and get it delivered directly to the customer. The farmer will send me a video, I will send the video to my customer and if he is happy then I will confirm the order with the farmer and get it delivered to the customer.

Qurbani time the farmers know that I take alot more animals so they call me or video call me and tell me they have this amount of animals for me and keep it aside. Basically they book it for me and as I get customers I call them and tell them to send this amount of animals from my lot to the customers location. I haven't personally seen the animals. The farmer does send me videos and video calls me and I don't have time to go and see them.

Is it permissible the way I trade? If not, then all the money I earned and consumed is haraam and how do I go about fixing this issue? Please advise me.

Using Bay'as Salam to make a dropshipping business halaal

Q: I would like to know more about Bay'as Salam and how I can use this to make my dropshipping business halaal?

When a customer places an order, the supplier ships the product directly to the customer. You pay the supplier the wholesale cost of the product, and you keep the difference between the wholesale cost and the retail price as your profit. In a Salam contract, the buyer and seller agree on the price, quantity, and delivery date of the product. The seller receives the price of the product in advance, providing them with the necessary funds to produce the product. The buyer then takes delivery of the product at the agreed-upon future date. I would like to know if the above information provided on salam will allow me to use it in the dropshipping context as mentioned in the first paragraph.
