Q: A website visitor wants to know whether sterilizing or neuter pets (especially dogs & cats) is permissible. Also the permissibility of electronic chip implant for registration purposes.
In addition to the questions earlier, the person also wants to know if is permissible for her to euthanise a sick cat because of illness or unable to afford the vet's bill.
Dog food which contains pork and horse meat
Q: Can you give dogs the dog food which is available in the market today. Its commonly known that it is made from pork and horse meat?
Dog training
Q: I'm a dog trainer; train them in obedience n guard training. Is this permissible?
Family Planning
Q: I married recently simply Alhamdulillah according to your esteemed advice. Please note, due distant land (Me and my wife will be moved in Gulf Inshaallah, I request u to make dua allah make easy both of us with Ahfiyath) and Physical weakness (fear) of my wife, we are planned for Family planning. I was stay with my wife 1 month after my Nikah and currently I am in Gulf due to my job. During Sexual intercourse with my wife, I used withdraw method so that sperm will not enter into my wife private part.
My mother-in-law also advised to my wife is that, do family planning for couple of years due to no one is there near with you (i.e. in Gulf) and physical weakness (fear).
- Could you please advice which is the best method can be used during Sexual Intercourse for family planning?
- Whether it is correct (i.e. before I used withdraw method)?
I seek the advice according to Sharia with keep in mind of my wife weakness.
Photos of nature, landscapes and wildlife
Q: Does the following Ahaadith apply to photos of nature, landscapes, what about wildlife?
Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “The people who will receive the severest punishment on the day of judgment are the picture makers (of animate objects).”
The severity of photography is leaving our muslim community. When a sin becomes widespread, it is taken very lightly. We never imagined that this day will come, when let alone taking photographs, with the cell-phone almost everyone has become a camera-man videoing day to day outings and get togethers.
Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Every picture maker will be in the fire. For every picture that he makes, a living being will be created and will punish him in jahannam.”
As a muslim our firm Imaan will protect us from all forms of photography. Be it on the cell phone, computer screen or our photographs appearing in magazines and newspapers. Many of us may have stopped taking photographs, let us now complete our repentance by erasing all stored images and by destroying all old albums containing our past photographs. May Allah Ta’ala protect and guide us all. Aameen!
Greeting non-muslims with salaam
Q: Please advise if it is wrong for us to greet non-Muslims with "As Salaamu Alaikum".
Art student drawing figures of people
Q: I am an art student, am I allowed to draw figures like batman, judge dredd, Michael Jackson, etc whose eyes are covered by a mask or a hat? Can I draw the mouth, ears, nose, etc as long as I don't draw the eyes?
Is the probition in Islam only about drawing eyes? Am I allowed to draw skulls which have empty eye sockets?
Using pictures for educational purposes
Q: Kindly advise us regarding on the following issues when they are done / used for educational purposes:
- Using text books or magazines, posters or any such literature which has animated pictures in them.
- Using caricature (cartoon) type of pictures when making a syllabus, specifically when we want to use them in preparing our own Arabic language syllabus.
Using skype
Q: I would like to know whether the usage of skype to talk to my relatives abroad is permissible or not? Will it fall under picture making? Skype is live streaming?
