Freeing oneself from interest dealings

Q: I am a married woman with two very young boys and a husband. I bought a flat before I got married and have a mortgage on it. So of course interest is involved. If I rent, I will not be able to afford it as I live in london and rents can be as high as 1000-1300 pounds a month on a two bedroom flat, which is what I would need with my boys. My husband and I both work 3 days each but my husband has been off sick for most part of this year so he gets a minimal wage each month. Statutory sick pay I think. In this case I need to know what to do Islamically. Do I continue paying my mortgage and ask Allah Subhana wa ta'aala for forgiveness? I wanted to sell it and try to buy a house as its not big enough for my family. I can try to get a re-mortgage on this flat and extend it or sell it and try to buy a house rather than a flat. This is really bothering me because I don't want a war with my creator.

Importing goods on machinery license due to lower import duty

Q: Our government has imposed 30% duty on import of machinery on trade license but if we import on manufacturer license then the duty is 10%. But the manufacturer is not allowed to resell the machine. I was importing machines on someones manufacturers license and sell to my customers and save the tax. Now I am very much confused that either it is halaal or haram? Similarly my machine price is USD 14000 c&f but the government has fixed the amount USD 9700. So we under invoice to USD 9700. Please also let me know that either it is allowed or not?

Participating in a competion

Q: Is it permissible to take part in a competition where you have to buy an item and they ask you to sms a secret code inside the wrapper? Will this be regarded as gambling as you are paying towards the competition due to the fact that you first have to buy the item although it is selling at the normal price?

Purchasing a cat as a pet

Q:

  1. Is it permissible to purchase a cat? I am of the Hanafi Madhab.
  2. If impermissible, please advise with regards to the SPCA.

To adopt a cat from them, based on the information provided on their website, it outwardly appears that no fee goes towards purchasing the actual animal itself.

Rather, R100 is allocated to a 'Pre-Home Inspection' where an "inspection of your property will be done to ensure that animals are placed in homes suited to their needs." Then, based on the suitability of your home, a further adoption fee is charged for a "health check, sterilization, first set of innoculations, micro chip, collar and ID disk.

Interest and usury

Q: I needed to ask that I have completed my BBA(H) just now. During the course, I wasn't practising Islam - the only true religion that much. From since 19 years, I had been living with my mother only as my parents separated from each other when I was only 5. Since then, she had been bearing my expenses. I have a sister too who got married few months ago. We live at our late grandmother's house. My mother got her share from her dad's property and all money was saved in to national savings scheme which made her get different saving certificates that included some interest. I never know that much about Islam. Though I was aware of the prohibition of forbidden interest in Islam. But I wasn't that much involved in Islam. I was a Muslim by name only. But now, I am getting much more involved in Islam. I pray 5 times a day and recite and even memorise Qur'an which I try my best to do so. Since then, I try to ignore all that is illegal in Islam. After the completion of BBA, my mother and sister expects from me to do a job. I once applied for a bank. Now they have called me for an interview. But, I rejected them. Once again, I got an offer from another bank through PR. And my family is just insisting on me, teasing me 24/7 to work there as I am not finding any job nowadays. My mother just wants a good future for me and needs to witness the circumstances which she ever desired for. I am getting an extremist in accordance with my religion. I am getting disturbed day by day. As they are almost taunting me, every single moment of my life. I have applied for halaal jobs like marketing or any other job, but I am not getting any proper response. As mentioned before, I am the only male member of my family. And, I have to support my family but since I was not in to Islam, I try to repent to Allah Ta'ala for my previous sins. Now I can't go for another major Sin. Please advice me. Suggest me considering me in place of your son. I am totally disturbed and not in my normal mental state now. It is also important to note that all of my education of BBA is from the interest amount, certificates and the principal amount. I wasn't much in to Islam before. That means my knowledge is also Haram? I am just not able to sleep. I am not just able to live my life. Please advice me and kindly give me a reply as soon as you read my message.

Assisting in evil and sin

Q:

  1. I am working virtually (from Pakistan) for an Irish Solicitors firm. I listen and type their dictations. They have all kind of cases including same sex marriage, family, employment etc. Is my job halaal?
  2. I have a job offer from a US based marketing company where I have to assist them in setting up their marketing campaigns. The campaigns I have to work on include financing, insurance, loans, mortgages, dating etc. Mostly my working is copying and pasting information/data from one system to another but at one step I have to visit different websites and decide which one is better for their advertisements to display on. Can I work for them?

Keeping one's money in a profit and loss account

Q: I wanted to ask you about the profit and loss account. As the person suffers a loss when the bank incurs a loss and gets a profit when the bank gets a profit, so is the profit and loss account halal or haram? If it is haram then can you advise me of an easy way to spend my money? I have some money saved up and would like to invest it somewhere that I would have small chances of a loss.

Forex trading

Q: Is fxcm.com halal or haram. It is forex.

This is what you do in forex, buy 1 usd dollar when it is equal 2 euro dollar and sell it when it is more than 2 or equal to 3 usd dollars.

For example: I bought when it was like this, 1 USD = 2 EURO. I will sell when it becomes 1 USD = 3 EURO or more than 2 EURO.

So is it halaal or haram? Can you tell me why is it halaal or haram, and also say at the end of your answer, this "It is halaal" or "it is haram" so I can understand clearly.
