The book Shamsul maarif

Q: I saw a video on youtube when searching for info about the book ''shams ul maarif''. I think the person in the video claims that he is moving bottles with the help of the instructions from the book of shams ul maarif with a jinn? What do the ulama say about this book? I saw that there is a fatwa of Shaykh Ibn Jibrin about this book.

Adjustment of the Islamic calender

Q: Regarding the recent adjustment of the Islamic calender, I came across an interesting obversation from the internet regarding hilaal. What is this Shariah standpoint regarding this view? It's perhaps a silly question to ask because if Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasllam) said so what is the need for clarification? But again I am a layman and need guidance from our elders. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Fast when the hilaal is sighted, and stop fasting when it is sighted. If due to overcast conditions, the moon is not sighted, then it will be a 30-day month.” What is the problem with this instruction of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)? What is so difficult that makes it impossible to observe this command? Why do people display an aversion for the Sunnah? Nothing but deficiency of Imaan and deficiency in love for Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) are the causes for treating the Sunnah and the Shariah with disdain. That's the obsevation  I read which made sense to me but I await the response of the muftis on this.

New years greetings, etc. on packaging of oranges

Q: Here in singapore during chinese new year time, there will be a lot of oranges sold in supermarkets. the oranges are packed in a decorated box, each orange is wrapped in plastic on which written in mandarin, new years greetings or wishes which means more or less "Good Fortune" or similar sentences. The oranges are halal of course but it's the packing that make me uncomfortable to buy them.So is it ok for muslims to eat this oranges?

Believing that a certain person will be able to give shifa

Q: I would like to know if it allowed to go for Shifaa in Cape Town from a sheikh that is living in Mauritius? My sister belongs to a Jaama that makes thikr and gives food. This sheikh gives shifaa and they wear a green cloth over them while thikr is being performed. She puts pictures of this sheikh on her blackberry and he have very long hair. The sheikh said that angels are in your hair if it is long so she grew her hair and says that should she have a son she will grow his hair long also.

They have been "called" to Mauritius to visit the sheikh and they go but they do not want to go to Makkah and perform their Hajj now. They receive colors of clothes for the higher there spirituality goes. They say everyone should join and ask for anything and the sheikh will ask Allah. We as muslims can ask Allah directly so should we need to go through a sheikh in Mauritius? I believe that thikr is part of the quraan and you are making Allah higher but is this all allowed in Islam to almost like worship this sheikh?
