Q:

1. How do we know number of missed prayer when we used to pray occasionally (based on years) and how to perform those missed prayers?

2. Can we attach one extra prayer in lieu of missed prayers in Fajr and Maghrib?

Q: Is the prayer of someone who has inserted something into its rectum (to block flatulence) before doing wudhu and removed it after praying valid?

Q: I was the imam in a salaah while travelling, a few other travellers also stopped, joined us and we performed salaah.

We had departed after Fajr, and had decided we will stop for Zohr at this location. After stopping we had meals etc. made wudhu and went to perform salaah.

At the time of starting the 2 rakaat jamaat salaah, I don't remember having a definite intention of performing Zohr Salah itself, although it was for this very reason we stopped. After saying the takbir the thought came into my mind that what salah am I performing? Is it Asr? Then I immediately realised no its Zohr.

After salaah I mentioned this to an alim there who said its fine, since we stopped for that very reason so "ilm" was evident, and "amal" as well was evident. When these two are found then this is sufficient, its not necessary to make the specific intention before salah.

1. Is this correct? Is the salah valid?

2. If it is invalid, what should one do when the musallis behind one cannot be traced?

Q: If I travel from Johannesburg to Durban for 20 days, but stay at different suburbs in Durban for a few days each, e.g. Musgrave, Sherwood, Overport, Clare Estate, Westville, etc.

1. Would I be a musafir?

2. What is considered in determining whether a place is considered as one or two different places? E.g. Is it based on the city name, suburb, physical break in buildings, etc?

Q: Due to the pandemic, my husband is not allowed in the hospital during my delivery. Can he recite the azaan through the phone loudspeaker in my baby’s ears? What is the other option I can do? 

Q: There's a few brothers in a masjid who usually don't like when any scholars from different localities come to their masjid, when jamaat comes and even their own Imaams. They find fault in them. For example, they say that one person is reading too fast, another is making ruku and sajdah too long and they only come when the Imaam has to go on the mimbar for the khutbah.

Will their Salaah be accepted like how they don't appreciate their Imaams? Please advise as to what the normal brothers can do and also what the Imaams can do.

Q: If a couple of people are musaafirs in a city and decide to perform Zuhr Salaah in their hotel rather than go for jumuah, is it then:

(a) Best for them to pray zuhr salaah individually rather than making a jamaat OR

(b) Obligatory for them to pray zuhr salaah individually rather than making a jamaat OR

(c) Best for them to make a jamaat for zuhr salaah?

Q: As a Hanafi, is it permissible for me to follow the opinion of the Shafi Mazhab to hold a Mushaf (Quraan) during Taraweeh or Tahajjud and recite from it?

Q: I was reading witr salaah and sat in tashahhud for the third rakaat. After reciting the tashahhud, I went into the fourth rakaat by mistake. On completing the fourth rakaat, I made salaam and sajdah sahw. Is my witr valid? Also, what is the ruling in the case where I forgot to sit in the third rakaat for tashahhud?

Q: In my locality there was an AGM meeting held which I attended. It was at the madrasah building which is the yard of our musjid. The meeting ended at 8:15 pm just before the Azaan was called. Esha namaaz jamaat was at 8:30pm. Five minutes before namaaz jamaat in the musjid, the brothers decided to read their own jamaat and not join the jamaat namaaz in the musjid. Even perchance if this type of meeting had to continue after Azaan was given, I thought the better place to read namaaz is in the musjid which I did. I also thought that being people in the effort of Deen if someone had to see us reading namaaz separately from the main jamaat in the musjid, it would create confusion or if we had to continue the meeting and read a separate namaaz later, this would also create confusion. In Deen, we have to always look at rewards to motivate us and the Sunnat. I believe we have to instill in our children and people the importance of jamaat namaaz in musjid.

I have seen in the month of Ramadaan, there are some areas if the venue is walking distance to musjid, they first read their Esha in musjid, then move to the venue even if this delays their taraaweeh time, and I also see in Darul Ulooms and Madrasahs that are in or near proximity to the MUSJID, they stop their classes and take time of to make the students read their namaaz with jamaat in the musjid then continue with class. I am sure, to stop students from class and move them to the musjid is abit time consuming.

My question:

1. What is the reward of the reading namaaz in the musjid with jamaat and in a bigger congregation?

2. Is there any disrespect caused when reading another jamaat in the same yard as the musjid after Azaan or few minutes before the Azaan is called except if you a Musaafir (traveller) or urgelty need to set out for a journey or any dire necessities?

3. If the madrasah students who's madrasah is situated in the same yard of the musjid, observe smaller jamaat separately and not in the musjid, what will be the harm of the tarbiyat of those children?

4. How can I help rectify this in my community as it is really disturbing me?
